Why celebrate a Pet-friendly Diwali

What would a celebration be if our best buddies did not enjoy it?
Pets are extremely sensitive to loud noises and flashing lights. Some pets even end up with health issues and mental distress because of the commotion caused by a celebration that has fireworks and other pet-toxic substances.
And the pollution and mess caused by bursting fireworks are not just harmful to the environment but at times are ingested by innocent strays, leading to death.

" Your pets need extra care and safety on Diwali, as the jarring noise and flashing lights can be overwhelming to them."

What is a Pet-friendly Diwali?

A pet-friendly Diwali would be a true celebration, if we kept in mind the environment and the sweetest member of our families! It is being considerate towards dogs, cats, and other animals alike who can’t voice their worries out.

By taking safety measure and precautions for a pet-safe Diwali, your entire family and your four-legged fur ball can celebrate the happy occasion!

Not only does celebrating a safe and Green Diwali, keep the environment clean but you also get to safeguard your dog or cat from serious health issues like:

  • Bloody diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Acute kidney failure
  • Ulcers
  • Heart attacks (based on the breed and health history)

Best way to celebrate a Pet-friendly Diwali

From a clean environment to a happy pet, celebrating a pet-safe green Diwali has many benefits. Few tips you could follow as a pet parent to enjoy a pet-safe Diwali are:

Keep your pets away from the fireworks

Fireworks are loud, flashy, and are made of substances that are toxic to animals. Your dog or cat can get easily overwhelmed and anxious because of the noise and flashy lights that fireworks make. So as a pet parent, you can chuck the fireworks to the side and can try your best to opt for a firework/cracker-free Diwali.

Choose Eco-friendly lights or decor

Going for a firework-free Diwali doesn't mean you can't celebrate the "Festival of Lights" to the fullest. Earthen lamps or Diyas are an Eco-friendly option that is great for both pets and the environment. You can use this pet-safe option to decorate your house on Diwali. However, make sure to place the earthen lamp at a
safe distance from your dog or cat, as your excited Lil pooch may try to reach for it.

Keep your dog away from sweets

With your home filled with sweets, your pet is probably running towards you asking for a treat. But do not feed your dog any sweets, as Indian sweets generally have ingredients that can cause allergies to dogs and, in some cases, can even be toxic to your pet.

Let your pup react the way he/she wants

When your pups gets overwhelmed by the noise outside, do not try to punish or force them to stay calm. As pet parents, you need to understand that their aggressive or unusual behavior is a cause of the commotion outside your home. So, let them adjust to the situation at their own pace.

During the festivities try to be mindful of other animals too. Going green/pet-friendly is not just good for your pets but is a great option for the long-term health of their parents too (You!).
