Training your pet is a fun way to bond with them. Spending quality time with your bird during training helps build trust and a unique bond.
Teaching Your Bird To Step Up
The first essential skill to teach your bird would be to “step-up”. This trick is fundamental and very important, as it will help your bird to progress into learning more complicated ones.
The step-up command is a way to control your pet and is also an important step in pet-bonding, as it decreases their fear towards you.
To familiarize your bird with your hand, place a treat and bring your hand slowly near the cage and gently speak to him as he investigates it.

Once your pet bird is familiar and comfortable enough to step on your hand, avoid making any sudden movements or sound.
Instead, reward them with the treat and let them get accustomed to stepping on your hand.
Keep practicing this trick, until they grasp it completely.
Teaching Your Bird To Wave
Once your bird has mastered the skill of stepping up and down your hand, the next cool trick to teach them would be to wave.
Prepare for the training session with treats in hand. When your parrot is sitting on his perch, use the word “wave” as a command and slowly extend your hand near them as you would for the step-up trick.
As they have been trained for the stepping command, they will immediately walk towards your hand to step-up.
When your bird lifts his foot to step-up, slowly move your hand away.
And as your bird’s feet are in the air, praise him with treats for completing the wave command.
Repeat this religiously two to three times every day during training sessions until your bird masters this adorable behavior.
Teaching Your Bird To Talk
Before you begin training your bird to talk, remember that not all parrots and bird species can mimic words.
But if you do have a bird species that can mimic words, then you are in for an exciting ride!
There are various popular methods for teaching a parrot to talk, but no matter the technique, patience and consistency is the key to teaching your bird to talk.

Stay patient and keep encouraging them with treats and positive reinforcements!
